This gallery recognizes Asian American psychiatrists who fostered a more extensive inclusion of cross-cultural exposure in psychiatric training and advocated for the numerous issues confronting psychiatrists of Asian origin in the United States. The past, present, and future leaders displayed in this gallery have made significant impacts within APA and on the field of psychiatry as a whole.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Dora-Linda Wang, M.D., Edmond Pi, M.D., Carlyle Chan, M.D., and Junji Takeshita, M.D., for their guidance and help with this exhibition.
Asian American Psychiatrists
Kun-Po Soo Award
The Kun-Po Soo Award Lecture was established in 1987 to recognize significant contributions toward understanding the impact and import of Asian cultural heritage in areas relevant to psychiatry. The award also seeks to encourage scholarship and research in culture-specific mental health issues and treatment needs of Asian populations and to stimulate scientific exchange on transcultural issues.
