Dr. Lu, born in San Francisco, earned his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School. He made significant contributions to cultural psychiatry, psychiatric education, and the relationship between psychiatry and religion/spirituality. Dr. Lu chaired the APA Committee of Asian-American Psychiatrists from 1987 to 1993 and served on the Scientific Program Committee from 1992 to 2000. In 2001, he received the Kun-Po Soo Award for advancing the understanding of Asian cultural heritage in psychiatry, followed by an APA Special Presidential Commendation in 2002 for his work in cross-cultural psychiatry.
