Lecture Title: Global Mental Health and My Transatlantic Experience: Focus, Commitment and Retrospectives
Dr. Jayaram is a faculty member in the departments of psychiatry, the School of Health Policy and Management, and the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the first Asian psychiatrist to chair the AMA’s International Medical Graduate (IMG) Council and the first IMG and Asian psychiatrist to be on the APA Scientific Program Committee for 11 years and served as chair. She initiated, founded, supported and developed culturally congruent, integrated community mental health care in rural areas in southern India through innovative funding; worked during vacations annually, sustained partnerships to deliver care over 17 years to 206 villages and a population base of six million households (www.ProjectMaanasi.org).
