Dr. Ananth was born in Hassan, Mysore, India, and received his medical degree in 1960 from Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, India. He served in many capacities, including on the APA’s Minority Affairs Committee, the Pacific Rim Psychiatrists Association, and the Indo-American Psychiatric Association (IAPA).
Dr. Ananth was a Life Fellow of the APA and was awarded the Kun-Po Soo Award in 1999 and the George Tarjan Award in 2000 for his efforts to increase the understanding of Asian cultural heritage in areas relevant to psychiatry.
