Dr. Sata was born in Portland, Oregon, and received his medical degree in 1958 from the University of Utah College of Medicine. Dr. Sata was director of Harborview Mental Health Center in 1971 and served as a founding member of Pacific Rim College Psychiatrists.
He served as the first chairperson of the APA Task Force on Asian American Psychiatrists from 1975 to 1980 and was actively involved on the APA Council of National Affairs. Dr. Sata was an APA Life Fellow.
