1997 Kun-Po Soo Award Recipient
Lecture Title: Asian Cultures and Psychotherapy
Dr. Kim was born in Sinuiju in 1930, during the Japanese occupation of what is now North Korea. Throughout his career as a psychiatrist and community activist, he dedicated himself to advocating for the disenfranchised and voiceless. He earned his medical degree from Seoul National University School of Medicine in 1956 and later obtained a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Arizona in Tucson. A member of the APA since 1967, Dr. Kim was a Distinguished Life Fellow and a founding member of the APA Task Force on Asian American Psychiatrists. In 1997, he became the inaugural recipient of the Kun-Po Soo Award.
