Lecture Title: The Changing Pattern of Mental Disorders in China and other Asian countries
Dr. Phillips is regarded as one of the most knowledgeable scholars in global mental health and mental health in China. The nearly 30 years that Dr. Phillips has continuously been in China are unparalleled in the mental health field. During that time he published major studies of the course and outcome of schizophrenia, the rates and causes of suicide, and a variety of other mental health problems and issues, from stigma to the quality of psychiatric services. He founded the Beijing Suicide Prevention Center and operated a research center in Hubei with the Civil Affairs Ministry. Currently, Dr. Phillips is a member of the senior faculty of the Shanghai Mental Health Center, where his responsibilities include editing the Shanghai Archives of Psychiatry and training residents and fellows in research projects that have both clinical and policy relevance.
