Lecture Title: Teaching Illness Self-Management to Improve the Integration of Care Among Hispanics
Dr. Kopelowicz is a professor of psychiatry and Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, as well as the Chief of Psychiatry at UCLA’s Olive View Medical Center. He earned a B.A. in psychology from Haverford College, his medical degree from Rutgers Medical School in New Jersey, and completed his psychiatric residency in the UCLA/San Fernando Valley program. Dr. Kopelowicz has published extensively on schizophrenia, with a particular focus on its effects on Latino patients and their families. He has been involved with the Latino Behavioral Health Institute in Los Angeles and has received numerous awards for his work, including the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the Simon Bolivar Award from the American Psychiatric Association, where he is also a Distinguished Fellow.
