2004 Simon Bolivar Award Recipient
Lecture Title: Latino Youth in the U.S.: Developmental and Mental Health Challenges
Dr. Pumariega earned his M.D. from the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed a fellowship in general and child psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center. He is currently Professor and Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Florida, Gainesville. With over 40 years of experience, he has been a leader in children's mental health systems and cultural competence. He has headed three academic child psychiatry programs, chaired three psychiatry departments, and developed numerous regional and state programs. His honors include the Alumni Hall of Fame at the University of Miami, APA’s Simon Bolivar Award, and AACAP’s Jeanne Spurlock Award.
