Lecture Title: Simon Bolivar: Trauma, Tragedy and Triumph
Dr. Pollock, born in Chicago, earned his B.S. in 1944, M.D. in 1945, M.S. in 1948, and Ph.D. in Physiology in 1951. His experience treating soldiers at Ft. Riley, Kansas, and observing the psychological effects of war inspired his interest in mental health. After joining the Northwestern faculty in 1972, Dr. Pollock became a visionary leader who broadened the scope of psychoanalysis, incorporating the expertise of social workers, anthropologists, historians, and clinical psychologists. A Life Member of the APA, he also served as its President from 1987 to 1988.
