Dr. Canino, born in Puerto Rico, earned his M.D. from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in 1970 and completed his psychiatry residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. A Fellow of both the APA and AACAP, he served as President of the New York Council on Child Psychiatry and was a founding member of the American Society of Hispanic Psychiatrists and the Association of Hispanic Mental Health Professionals. An APA Distinguished Life Fellow, Dr. Canino is recognized for his work with children at risk for psychiatric disorders and co-founded CARING, an organization supporting at-risk inner-city children through the arts and literature.
