Lecture Title: Immigration and Psychopathology: Is There a Connection?
Dr. Escobar, originally from Colombia, South America, moved to the United States in 1969. He trained in psychiatry and earned a master’s degree in psychiatry/medical genetics from the University of Minnesota in 1973. From 1973 to 1985, he progressed from assistant to associate and then to full professor of psychiatry at the University of Minnesota, the University of Tennessee, and UCLA. Dr. Escobar is recognized as a national leader in academic psychiatry, actively engaging in teaching and research. His research primarily focuses on clinical psychopharmacology, psychiatric epidemiology, psychiatric diagnosis, and cross-cultural medicine and psychiatry.
