Dr. Volkow earned her B.A. from the Modern American School in Mexico City and her M.D. from the National University of Mexico. She completed her postdoctoral training in psychiatry at New York University. Currently serving as the Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at the National Institutes of Health, she is the first woman to hold this position. Dr. Volkow is renowned for her extensive research in drug addiction, particularly her expertise on the brain's dopamine system. Her work focuses on the neurological impacts of addiction, obesity, and aging.
