Dr. Symonds was an APA Life Fellow, psychoanalyst, and co-founder of the Association of Women Psychiatrists (AWP). She was responsible for broadening the consideration of women’s issues in the field of psychiatry.
In 1997, the APA established the Alexandra Symonds Award to honor a female psychiatrist who has made significant contributions to promoting women’s health and the advancement of women.
