During the 1970’s, the percentage of APA women members started to grow, however, few women held leadership positions. The APA Council on Emerging Issues established a Task Force on Women, spearheaded by Dr. Roeske, who successfully developed a permanent component (1975) the Committee on Women under the Council of National Affairs. Women psychiatrists in leadership positions were on their way.
In 1990, APA established the Roeske Teaching Award for those who have made outstanding and sustaining contributions to medical student education.
