Lecture Title: Navigating the cultural landscape for professional Success: An IMG perspective
Dr. Fernandez graduated from Kilpauk Medical College, University of Madras, India, in 1984 and completed his psychiatry residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System from 1994 to 1997. He then pursued fellowship training in geriatric psychiatry at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville in 1997. Throughout his career, he has been deeply involved in advocating for international medical graduates (IMGs). He joined the IMG Committee in 1996, was elected Deputy Representative of the IMG Caucus in 2009, and served as the Assembly Representative of the IMG Caucus from 2011 until May 2022. A Distinguished Life Fellow of the APA, Dr. Fernandez was honored with the George Tarjan Award in 2023.
