Dr. Griffith, a native of Barbados, earned his medical degree from the University of Strasbourg, France, (1973) and completed his psychiatry residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York, (1974-1977). Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in the APA, serving on several committees, including the Committee on Black Psychiatrists, the Council on Psychiatry and Law, the Council on International Affairs, and the Ethics Committee. An APA Distinguished Life Fellow, he has been honored with the Solomon Carter Fuller Award (2001), the Isaac Ray Award (2010), and the Chester M. Pierce Human Rights Award (2023).
