2018 George Tarjan Award Recipient
Lecture Title: Don Quixote and the IMG: A Mind State
Dr. Irigoyen was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and earned his medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua (1974). He spent nine years practicing medicine among the Tarahumara Indians before completing his psychiatric residency at the University of New Mexico, where he received the 1987 Senescu Award. Currently, he practices psychiatry in McAllen and serves as a physician advisor for the Behavioral Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, both located in Texas’s Rio Grande Valley. An active advocate for IMGs, he has been a member of the IMG Committee and held various leadership roles within the IMG Caucus, including Deputy Representative, Representative, and President. A Distinguished Life Fellow of the APA, Dr. Irigoyen was honored with the George Tarjan Award in 2018.
