2005 George Tarjan Award Recipient
Lecture Title: Temperament, Mood Disorder, and Human Nature
Dr. Akiskal was a Lebanese-born American psychiatrist and professor. He obtained his medical degree from the American University of Beirut (1969) and psychiatric training at the Universities of Tennessee (Memphis) and Wisconsin (Madison). Dr. Akiskal was a Distinguished Fellow of the APA, an honorary member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK), and the Hungarian and Peruvian Psychiatric Associations. He has received a number of honors for his work on temperament and bipolar spectrum disorders, including the George Tarjan Award (2005).
