2013 George Tarjan Award Recipient
Lecture Title: International Medical Graduates: Enriching American Psychiatry and Good-Will Ambassadors Enhancing World Mental Health
Dr. Srinivasaraghavan was born in India and earned his medical degree from the Medical College in Thanjavur, Madras, India, in 1974 before completing his residency at the Chicago Medical School from 1977 to 1980. Throughout his career, he has been a dedicated mentor to international medical graduates (IMGs), guiding them in education, research, scientific presentations, publications, and career advancement. He served as a representative of the APA Assembly’s Asian American Caucus and chaired the Committee of Representatives of Minority/Underrepresented Groups. Notably, he was the first Asian American IMG to be nominated for the position of APA President. A Distinguished Life Fellow of the APA, he was honored with the George Tarjan Award in 2013 for his contributions to psychiatry and IMG advocacy.
