Lecture Title: Being and Becoming an IMG Academician: Personal Notes on Research Development
Dr. Canive, born in Cuba, left the country shortly after Fidel Castro came to power and moved to Spain to pursue his medical studies. He earned his M.D. from the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain (1966), then moved to the U.S. for an internship in New York City. He later completed his psychiatric residency at McGill University in Canada, beginning (1972). He was the recipient of the Simon Bolivar Award (2008) and the George Trjan Award (2014).
