Lecture Title: Accessing Care: A Challenge to the Poor and Disadvantaged
Dr. Ruiz was born in Cuba and received his M.D. from the University of Paris (1964) and interned at the Medical School of the University of Miami (1965), followed by a psychiatric residency (1966-68). Dr. Ruiz was an APA Distinguished Life Fellow, and his awards include APA’s Simon Bolivar Award (1991); Administrative Psychiatry Award (1996); and George Tarjan Award (2002). He served as Vice President (2003-05) and President (2006-07) of the APA.
