2003 George Tarjan Award Recipient
Lecture Title: Health, Culture, and South-Asian Indians in North America
Dr. Desai was born in India, received his medical degree from the University of Baroda, India (1962), and completed his residency in psychiatry at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago (1967). Dr. Desai was actively involved in the governance of the APA for more than 25 years, ending up as the Speaker of Assembly (2002-2003). He was a Distinguished Fellow of the APA and held numerous positions, including chair of the Caucus of IMG, chair of the Committee on Veteran Affairs, Area 4 Representative to the Assembly, and Assembly Recorder and Speaker (2003-2004). Dr. Desai is the recipient of numerous honors, including APA's Oskar Pfister Award (1995) and George Tarjan Award (2003).
