Dr. Viswanathan was born in India, received his MD from Madras Medical College (1989), and obtained research training and a Doctor of Medical Science degree from State University of NY Downstate Medical Center (1972). He currently serves as the Brooklyn Psychiatric Society representative in the APA Assembly and is chair of the Committee on Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry for the GAP. Dr. Viswanathan is a Distinguished Life Fellow, was the recipient of the George Tarjan Award (2017), and is APA president (2024-25).
