In 1970, at the 123rd APA Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California, the Gay Liberation Movement disrupted the scientific session on "Issues of Sexuality." The protestors were infuriated about the 'mind renovation' technique of aversive therapy used for homosexuals. The organized homosexual group argued that the therapists were forcing the patient to conform to social mores rather than assisting the patient in adjustment.
