In February 1974, the APA Board of Trustees' decision on the deletion of homosexuality from the DSM-II was supported by a referendum on APA membership. 58 percent of members favored replacing “Homosexuality” in the DSM-II with a new title, “Sexual Orientation Disturbance.”
