Pioneering Hispanic Psychiatrists

This gallery is dedicated to the pioneering Hispanic Psychiatrists who played an important role in advocating for the mental health needs of Hispanic and Latino people. These highlighted psychiatrists served as a bridge to psychiatry in Mexico, Latin America, the Caribbean, and all of South America, confronting diverse socio-economic, cultural, and linguistic challenges.

In 1970, a Task Force on Mental Health of Spanish-Speaking Psychiatrists was established to assist in the development of adequate mental services for Hispanic people. In 1979, a formal Committee of Hispanic Psychiatrists was established, which continued to support and improve patient care and advocate for Hispanic related issues.
