Dr. Jones obtained his B.S. from Howard University and his M.D. from Meharry Medical College. He completed his psychiatry residency at New York Medical College and pursued further studies as a Kellogg Fellow in Health Care Policy at New York University’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, where he earned his M.S. degree.
As a board-certified psychiatrist and health care administrator, Dr. Jones has held various significant positions, including President/CEO of NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation, Commissioner of the NYC Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Alcohol Services, Medical Director at Lincoln Hospital, and Senior Associate Dean at NYMC, where he also served as Professor of Psychiatry.
Dr. Jones has authored numerous articles, chapters, and books focusing on the treatment of African Americans and LGBTQ individuals. He is a co-editor of the recently published book, “Black Mental Health: Patients, Providers, and Systems.” Additionally, Dr. Jones has served as the past president of the Black Psychiatrists of America (BPA) and is recognized as a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatry Association.
