2020 Solomon Carter Fuller Award Recipient
Lecture Title: Nigrescence and the Future of American Psychiatry
Dr. McLeod-Bryant holds the position of Associate Professor and currently serves as the Interim Director of the Behavioral Health North Area Clinic at the Medical University in Charleston, SC. He completed his psychiatry residency at the Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, MA. Dr. McLeod-Bryant's extensive administrative background includes serving as the Medical Director for the South Carolina Department of Mental Health for a two-year term, as well as holding past positions as Vice-Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and as Medical Director of Charleston Memorial Hospital.
For two decades, Dr. McLeod-Bryant served as a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He has also held leadership roles such as president of the South Carolina Psychiatric Association and as APA’s Assembly Representative of the Caucus of Black Psychiatrists. Additionally, he served as Chair of the APA Assembly Committee on Planning for two years. Dr. McLeod-Bryant is recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the APA and has received prestigious awards, including the Jeanne Spurlock Achievement Award in 2009 and the Solomon Carter Fuller Award in 2020.
