Dr. Tardy pursued his medical education at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, where he developed a keen interest in clinical psychiatry alongside a passion for public health and epidemiology. Upon graduating in 1967, he completed a comprehensive medical internship that included dedicated training in psychiatry. His commitment to public health and epidemiology was further solidified during his studies at the Harvard School of Public Health, where he earned an M.P.H. degree in Health Service Administration in 1969.
Following his academic pursuits, Dr. Tardy assumed the role of director of psychiatry at Queens Hospital in Jamaica, N.Y., while also serving as an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of New York at Stonybrook. In 1978, he actively participated as a minority delegate in the Assembly of the American Psychiatric Association and served as chairman of the Committee of Black Psychiatrists of the New York County District Branch.
