Daniel B. Borenstein, M.D.

We are on the frontier of better understanding the treatment and prevention of psychiatric disorders.

Dr. Borenstein was born in Silver City, New Mexico. He attended local public schools and the New Mexico Military Institute. He furthered his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received his M.D. (1962) from the University of Colorado. He interned at the University Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, and spent his psychiatric residency at the University of Colorado (1963–66). From 1967 to 1971, he was in training at the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Institute. He entered private practice and joined the faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he achieved full clinical professorship. He also serves on the senior faculty of the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Society Institute. He has contributed to the psychiatric literature. 

Dr. Borenstein was President of the Southern California Society (1978–79) and represented that society in the Assembly. He served on the APA Board of Trustees for many years, serving as Secretary and Vice President for two years each and on over 25 major APA components. 

Dr. Borenstein served as President of the American Psychiatric Association (2000–01).
