Dr. Jeste was born in Pimpalgaon, India, earned his D.P.M. from the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Bombay, and received his medical degree from the University of Bombay, India. He spearheaded the process of finalization, approval, and publication of the DSM-V and expanded APA's international membership with a focus on Positive Psychiatry.
Dr. Jeste served as the first Asian American president of APA from 2012–13, is a Distinguished Life Fellow, and was the award recipient of the George Tarjan Award in 2006.
