Dr. Lu was born in San Francisco, CA, and received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School. Through his presentations, he has contributed to the areas of cultural psychiatry, psychiatric education, and the interface of psychiatry and religion/spirituality. He served on the APA Committee of Asian-American Psychiatrists from 1987 to 1993, which he chaired for three years, and was a member of the Scientific Program Committee from 1992 to 2000.
Dr. Lu was the recipient of the Kun-Po Soo award in 2001 for his contributions toward understanding the impact of Asian cultural heritage in areas relevant to psychiatry, and the following year, in 2002, he received an APA Special Presidential Commendation from President Richard Harding for his work in cross-cultural psychiatry.
