Lecture Title: Psychiatry for Asian-Americans: A Biopsychosociocultural Approach
Dr. Yamamoto, born in Los Angeles, California, earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1949. He completed his psychiatric residency training at Minneapolis General Hospital, Hastings State Hospital, and the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis.
A founding Fellow of the Pacific Rim College of Psychiatrists, Dr. Yamamoto was widely recognized as a cross-cultural expert, bringing attention to the impact of cultural factors on mental illness and enlightening the psychiatric profession on these issues. He joined the APA in 1951, becoming a Distinguished Life Fellow, and was honored with the Asian/Asian-American Award in 1993.
