Lecture Title: Hispanic Psychiatry: From Margin to Mainstream
Dr. Alarcón, born in Peru, earned his medical degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima in 1964, followed by a psychiatry residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital (1964–1972). He also received a master's degree in public health from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. Currently, he is a professor of psychiatry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and serves as the Deputy Chief of the Department of Psychiatry at Emory University. Dr. Alarcón has been the vice chairperson of the APA’s Council on International Affairs and is recognized as a Distinguished Life Fellow of the APA.
