Dr. Rao was born in India, received his medical degree from Kurnool Medical College Tiraipati University (1976), and completed postgraduate training at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn (1977–81). Dr. Rao has strived to make IMG issues a priority of psychiatric education. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the APA and recipient of George Tarjan (2009).
