Dr. Olarte, born in Argentina, earned her M.D. from Cuyo National University in Argentina (1970) and completed her psychiatry residency at Elmhurst City Hospital in New York (1970–1973). She was a member of the Committees for IMGs, Hispanics, and Women Caucuses and is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the APA. Dr. Olarte received the George Tarjan Award (1999), the Alexandra Symonds Award (2007), and a Special Presidential Commendation (2009).
