Blanche Frank Ittleson was a philanthropist and pioneer in social work intervention for retarded and mentally and emotionally disturbed children. She was director and officer of the National Association for Mental Health, a board member for the Board of Jewish Guardians, and honorary president of the U.S. Committee for the World Federation of Mental Health.
In 1976, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) established the Ittleson Award, which recognizes outstanding and published research in child and adolescent psychiatry that has resulted in, or promises to lead to, a significant advance in promoting the mental health of children. She was an honorary fellow of the APA.
