Washington, D.C. — The American Psychiatric Association Foundation’s (APAF) Center for Workplace Mental Health has launched the Notice. Talk. Act. ® at Work module in nine additional languages: German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Czech, Italian, Simplified Chinese, Thai, and Brazilian Portuguese. U.S. employers whose employees work internationally or whose employees’ first language is not English are now able to make workplace mental health accessible across their organizations.

Notice. Talk. Act. ® at Work is a 35-minute e-learning training module that supports leaders, managers, and supervisors to understand, notice, communicate, and react to employees' mental health concerns at an organizational level. The impact of the pandemic and increased rates of working from home surfaced issues such as poor work-life balance, anxiety, stress, loneliness, and depression. Now that the conversation about mental health in the workplace has opened, implementing programs like Notice. Talk. Act. ® at Work is more important than ever before.

“Managing stress in the workplace is an issue almost anywhere you look around the globe,” said Rawle Andrews, Jr., Esq., APAF Executive Director. “We know that, both in the U.S. and globally, language barriers can be a challenge for managers and employees who are seeking tools, tips, and resources about mental health and wellness. This is why, for the first time, we are proud to offer our Notice. Talk. Act. ® At Work mental wellness training program in ten of the most frequently spoken languages in the world and at a time when we need it most.”

No matter what language they speak, managers can set a top-down example for their employees by communicating openly about mental health. “Think about the profound impact that our managers and leaders have on the workforce. How do we provide them with the necessary tools around communication?” said Howard Chrisman, M.D., the CEO of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare at Northwestern Medicine. “It’s a commitment to not just our workforce, but the leaders of the workforce – to give them the necessary tools.”

Leading companies spanning various industries use the APA Foundation’s Notice. Talk. Act. ® at Work initiative for their employees, including Wendy’s, Liberty Mutual, and the American Heart Association. The training sessions reduce stress, offer post-COVID support, and build a harmonious working environment for employees.

Of those who received the training, 96% would recommend it to others. The APA Foundation is dedicated to supporting mentally healthy workplaces not only in the U.S., but around the world.
